"My experience of learning to drive with Pelican was certainly a positive one. Like many other people who learn to drive for the first time, finding the correct driving school was a difficult process. "Up until a couple years ago, I had always lived in London and never really needed to drive as it was so easy to get around on public transport. When I moved to Hertfordshire I realised that I would need to start driving lessons, and I started having lessons with an independent instructor in Stevenage. I was consistently having a lesson every week. However after failing a couple of tests I realised my driving wasn't progressing and that I needed a change.

"When I was looking for a driving school I wanted someone who understood my needs. I had been starting and stopping lessons for over 10 years and with the extension of my family (new baby) it was a real 'must' for me to get my licence.

When I spoke to Jan she was very understanding, took into account my driving level and didn't treat me as someone who has never been behind the wheel. On my driving assessment with Steve he was very encouraging and made me believe I should pass my test with ease.

During my two hour lessons Steve was a good companion and he is a thouroughly nice chap. I think part of my success was down to Steve's belief in my driving and the encouragement he gave. Four minor faults later and I was one of the first people to pass the new driving test. I wish to thank Jan and Steve for all their help."

"Jan, you will be pleased to know that yesterday I returned from an epic drive/holiday to the south coast of France:

Hertford to Dover, Calais to Reims, Reims to Sete, Sete to Bourges, Bourges to Le Havre, Le Havre to Calais, Dover to Hertford. All in 10 days, with 4 nights spent in Sete (1800 miles total, give or take) Not bad for a newbie, eh?

I would say the lessons gave me greater confidence and that Steve's pragmatic approach to teaching helped massively in improving the areas which needed it.  After a handful of lessons I passed and couldn't have done it without Pelican. Thanks again!

"I would really love to thank Pelican from the bottom of my heart. Jan was so friendly and helpful on the phone. I felt I had known her for ages - like talking to a friend. Steve really is a genius and a truly lovely man - the best instructor. His dedication, determination and patience really helped me. He really concentrated on my problem areas and helped me focus.

Steve was totally reliable and even after a flooding incident he still managed to conduct my lesson. Having lessons with Steve was like having lessons with an old friend who really cared and showed genuine interest.

Although I have been driving for years, and after my unfortunate incident, I really appreciate all Steve has done for me, he really has made me a better driver. I actually will miss my weekly lessons.

I have never felt so comfortable with someone teaching me to do something before, I really thought that I was going to feel patronised and awkward when I learnt that I would have to redo my test, but thanks to my chat with Jan on the phone and Steve's lovely nature I really feel I have learnt to drive 'properly' all over again.

The overall service I received from both Steve and Jan was second to none, and I almost feel like part of the Pelican family.

"I was very pleased to pass my test on my first attempt after just 18 weeks.  Steve's tuition was always calm and helpful, with a pleasant manner - and completely reliable.  

One of the reasons that led me to choose Pelican was their availability on weekends. Throughout my learning period, Steve seemed to know just how to word things to stress their importance and fix them in memory.  

In the weeks leading up to the test we comprehensively covered the area where the test was due to take place so he could point out any idiosyncrasies in signage and road layout.  I always felt Steve was completely engaged in my learning process and my abilities increased at a good rate throughout - I never felt any frustration with any facet of driving.
